Privacy Policy

PressWork.me (“we”, “us”) runs the website https://presswork.me. This policy says what the site collects, why, and the choices you have.

What we collect

The detectors

The CMS detector, the WordPress theme and plugin detectors and the hosting checker run from our server, because a browser is not allowed to read another site’s code. When you check a website, our server requests one page of it and, for a WordPress site, its theme stylesheet; it looks up the site’s DNS records and the network that owns its IP address, and asks the WordPress.org directory for theme and plugin names. Results are cached for six hours.

We keep a log of the last 5,000 checks: the time, the hostname checked, the platform, theme and host found, and which tool was used. Your IP address is not stored in that log. The tool pages show counts from it (for example, the most common themes) and the latest results, never a site address. A counter tied to a hash of your IP address limits how many checks one visitor can run; it expires within an hour.

Analytics

Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, a Google service, to count visits and see which tools are used: the pages you view, the tool you ran and what it found (including the hostname you checked), the links you follow to other sites, the site that sent you, your approximate location (worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store), and your device, browser and screen size.

Google Analytics recognises a returning browser with two cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which last up to two years. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, they are set only if you accept them in the cookie banner; until you do, or if you reject them, Google gets no cookie and no identifier from your browser, only cookieless signals it uses to estimate totals. Elsewhere Google Analytics runs by default, and rejecting it in the banner turns it off. You can change your choice at any time with the cookie button in the bottom corner of every page, and block Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. How Google uses this data: How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Our own event counter. A small counter we run on Cloudflare, without cookies, records each check (the hostname checked and what was found) and clicks on links to other sites, plus page views while Google Analytics is not set up on the site. It keeps the event, the page, the site that sent you and your country, never your IP address, and cannot identify you. Until October 25, 2026, Plausible Analytics, a cookie-free service, counted page views and checks instead.

Jetpack Stats. Jetpack, a WordPress.com service by Automattic, also counts page views on this site. How Automattic handles this data: Jetpack and privacy.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets the cookies described above, and in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland only after you accept them. The cookie banner remembers your choice in cookies of its own (wpconsent_preferences and names starting with wp_consent_) for 30 days. We set no tracking cookies of our own. If you follow a link to a hosting company or site builder, that company may set its own cookies on its site, under its own privacy policy.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like any web server, it keeps standard access logs (IP address, page requested, browser) for security and troubleshooting.

Affiliate links

Some links to hosting companies and site builders are affiliate links: if you click one and buy, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Those companies may use cookies on their own sites to record the referral.

How we use this information

To count visits, see which tools and pages are used, keep the detectors working and stop abuse. We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Data retention

The detector log keeps only the last 5,000 checks, and the rate-limit counters expire within an hour. Google Analytics keeps event data for the period set in our account, at most 14 months. Our event counter keeps its records, which contain nothing that identifies you, for statistics. Emails sent to us are kept only as long as needed to answer you.

Your rights (GDPR, CCPA)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or California, you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction, deletion and portability. Google Analytics data is pseudonymous and we cannot tie it to you; you can withdraw your consent at any time with the cookie button. For anything else, email privacy@presswork.me and we will act on your request. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).

Children

PressWork.me is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their information.
